Zionsville Preview

Zionsville @ Fishers, Friday Sept 28th 7pm

The key to Friday night’s homecoming game against Zionsville will to limit the effectiveness of Senior QB Parker Dunshee.  Dunshee is the leader of a balanced Eagle offense that is #2 in scoring offense behind our own Tigers.

The Tigers will need to quickly react to the Zionsville offense as play develops and be able to correctly read pass or run.  Throwing the ball, Zionsville’s Dunshee is completing passes at a rate of 68% with 81 of 119 and will need to complete the passes to open up enough space for the running backs in this balanced attack.  Parker Dunshee is effective keeping the ball and gaining his own rushing yards at times, even being the team’s leading rusher against Noblesville.

Zionsville running back Cole Wendt will get most of the carries running behind fullback Steven Wisnewski.  If the Eagles get deep into the red zone, Wisnewski will be a favorite option to punch it across the goal line but Zionsville has many weapons on the ball with Coleton Smith, TE John Naumcheff, Alpha Diallo and Matt Penola.  To reiterate, the Eagles have a plethora of options on offense and will try to open the door with an array of looks that will keep their offense on the field and try to tire the Tigers defense.  Closing the lanes and putting pressure on Dunshee will be key.  Zionsville’s asset of Dunshee’s maturity and leadership will be the Tiger’s greatest test.

The schedule so far for the Eagles again means they have not seen a strong schedule yet with their toughest outing being a 50-35 loss to the HSE in the LOS game before we beat Avon that same night.  With the maturity and experience, you have to meet them head on and take away their flow and keep the Tiger offense on the field and grab every takeaway opportunity.

Zionsville’s schedule so far with scores:
Zionsville          41 Jefferson                 20
Zionsville          31 McCutcheon              7
Zionsville          28 Noblesville               0
HSE                  50 Zionsville                 35
Zionsville          35 Westfield                 18
Zionsville          55 Harrison                  14

HomeTown Sports will have this game. The game airs live on HTSN, WRTV 6.2 and will be available on theindychannel.com web site.

Tigers Output Ranking Well

The Fishers Tigers are maintaining high ranking in Indiana for both offensive and defensive output.

Offensively, the Tigers are generating 39.8 points per game to put them at 32nd overall in all classes and 8th in 5A.

Defensively, the Tigers are giving up just 13.4 points per game to rank them 40th overall and 9th in 5A.

Margin of victory, Fishers Tigers are at 26.4 putting them at 21st overall and 5th in 5A.

While these rankings can be scrutinized and fairly debated, it is definitely nice to be in this situation and we hope the Tigers will continue to work hard to improve on all sides of the ball and create this kind of seperation from opponents.  A performance against McCutcheon defensively will see the Tigers climbing the ladder in these ratings.  Let's get another shutout!

     Go Tigers!!!

McCutcheon Preview

Sept 21, 2012
@ Lafayette McCutcheon 1-4
This friday night, the Fishers Tigers travel to the McCutcheon Mavericks in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference matchup.  Fishers comes into the game at 4-1 and McCutcheon a deceiving 1-4.

McCutcheon coach Ken Frauhiger, 9-47 in his 6th year, will be looking to showcase the Mavs experience offense led by a good 6'3", 190 lb senior QB Matt Marencik and junior RB/WR Nate Deno.  Matt Marencik has skills that could elevate him to the next level potentially and was slightly concussed against Zionsville and didn't play the 2nd half of that game the Mavs lost 31-7.

Nate Deno is a very speedy player that will also be looking to break one on kick returns.  Tigers will need to elevate their special teams coverage to avoid a costly breakdown.  The Mavs add depth at RB with sophomore Blake Elming who is slippery and averaging greater than 5 yards per carry.

The Tigers defensive line and linebackers should take advantage of a suspect offensive line and schemes need to present Matt Marencik and his running backs with a great deal of frustration and create turnovers for the game to go the way it needs to for Fishers.  If the Tigers fail to do that, the game could be a lot closer than many expect.  The Mavs have been playing hard in an emotionally charged season and the Tigers will see a different level of play than they did at Harrison last week.

The Mavs defensively have a pair of linebackers, senior Matt Muncy and junior Caleb Harper. that are high charge kind of players and Tigers will need to neutralize them and keep them off balance.  Senior strong safety Kyle Brewer is also a big 6'4", 200 lbs that likes to hit and can cover the field well.  Controlling the offensive running attack with key passes will wear down the Mavs defensively.

Despite the loss to Lafayette Jefferson, surprising in my opinion, I believe McCutcheon is the best team we will play against in Lafayette area and the Tigers will want to not give them any early confidence and come ready to play football the way they are coached to.

In common opponent games:

McCutcheon 40, Harrison 6

Noblesville 21, McCutcheon 14

For those that like to dig a little bit deeper into the opponent of the week, there is an interesting ESPN piece done earlier this year about McCutcheon QB Matt Marencik's recruiting efforts that you might find interesting.

Also, we don't want to see any of this as found on the MTCSportsNetwork YouTube site.

Enjoy the trip Tigers, play to dominate and let's see some more students car-pooling to this one!

Fishers Tigers 66, Harrison 0

The Tigers traveled to WL Harrison on friday night and dominated Harrison for a 66-0 victory.  We will be looking over the record books because we think this one has to be the most points scored and margin of victory for the still young Fishers football program.

Tigers put on a running attack that had running backs Maurice Campbell and Harvey Allen each getting 3 rushing TDs.  The team would end up with 8 rushing TDs.

No doubt, the Fishers Tigers didn't let up after an emotional win against Avon last week.  The team had to contend primarily with themselves, fighting against penalties and a grass field that proved itself a little tricky to keep traction on.

Will add the box score when it becomes available.

Preview of Week 5 Opponent: WL Harrison Raiders

Sept 14, 2012
@ Harrison Raiders 0-4
This friday night, the Fishers Tigers visit the Harrison Raiders for a Hoosier Crossroads Conference battle versus a team struggling offensively sitting on a 20 game losing streak.

Harrison head coach Tony Martin, 3-21 and in his 3rd year, will be looking for any way to  keep the Tiger offense off the field and keep control the ball.  When the Raiders haven't had the ball this season, opponents have been running all over them.  Lafayette Jeff RB Darian Green rushed for 222 yards against them and, in their recent game, McCutcheon's Nate Deno put up 238 yards on just 14 carries.  The big run has bitten the Raiders frequently, exampled by Deno's 80 and 74 yard runs.

Expect Harrison to focus on running with Florida move-in Nick Torres being the primary carrier in the double-wing formation unless unexpected adjustments are made.  The junior running back ran for 122 yards against Lafayette Jeff in what was Harrison's best outing this year losing 28-21.  Getting first downs and keeping the ball off the ground have plagued the Raiders and the Tigers will be a tough opponent to improve against on such issues.  The Tigers are no doubt going to remain fired up wanting to continue the dominating play on both sides of the ball seen against Avon.

In common opponent games:

Westfield 27, Harrison 7

I could not find a box score for this game but Westfield QB Nick Ferrer completed 13 of 23 passing for 190 yards and RB Johnny Crawford rushed 21 times for 107 yards.

Avon 51, Harrison 6

The Avon box score showed Orioles put up 293 yards rushing on 23 rushes and added 128 yards passing from 6 for 15 attempts.  On the other side, Harrison netted just 47 total yards, 4-14 passing and 14 yards and 16 rushes for 33 yards.  I wish I could find out what the Harrison time of possession was during that game.

Go Tigers - keep up the energy!!  Harrison marks just the mid point of the conference season and continued improvement will bring great things that you want and what you are putting the helmet on for!  Another plea for fans to travel ESPECIALLY the student section!

Avon Handled

Fishers Tigers spent the night indoors at Lucas Oil Stadium and didn't leave their fans disappointed after handling previously undefeated Avon for a 34-9 victory.

The Tigers were able to recover from a defensive breakdown and shifty running after a short catch by Mikell the gave Avon a brief lead at 6-3 on a long 80 yard play in 1st half.  The Orioles would miss the PAT in what would foretell the dominance of the Fishers Tigers from that point.

Tigers held just a 10-9 lead at half and only had a 13-9 lead after 3 quarters but scored 21points in the 4th quarter to blow it open.  The second half that was highlighted by a penalty stricken Avon offense that was shut down by the Fishers defense.  One key drive in the game resulted in Avon missing a FG after they were knocking on the door inside the 5 yard line but were stopped on defense by the stout Fishers defensive determination and key pressure from DT Cody Moore, LB Matt Van Hoosen and a most timely sack by LB Liam Duddy.

Connor Christiansen was extremely well-composed and deliberate at QB, managing his offense better than we've seen all this year.  Christiansen ended up with 2 passing TDs and added rushing TD.  His pocket presence and patience was key offensively for the Tigers victory and are now 3-0 in Lucas Oil Stadium and continue to hope for being 4-0 before the season is complete.

Stats will be posted tomorrow.
