McCutcheon Preview

Sept 21, 2012
@ Lafayette McCutcheon 1-4
This friday night, the Fishers Tigers travel to the McCutcheon Mavericks in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference matchup.  Fishers comes into the game at 4-1 and McCutcheon a deceiving 1-4.

McCutcheon coach Ken Frauhiger, 9-47 in his 6th year, will be looking to showcase the Mavs experience offense led by a good 6'3", 190 lb senior QB Matt Marencik and junior RB/WR Nate Deno.  Matt Marencik has skills that could elevate him to the next level potentially and was slightly concussed against Zionsville and didn't play the 2nd half of that game the Mavs lost 31-7.

Nate Deno is a very speedy player that will also be looking to break one on kick returns.  Tigers will need to elevate their special teams coverage to avoid a costly breakdown.  The Mavs add depth at RB with sophomore Blake Elming who is slippery and averaging greater than 5 yards per carry.

The Tigers defensive line and linebackers should take advantage of a suspect offensive line and schemes need to present Matt Marencik and his running backs with a great deal of frustration and create turnovers for the game to go the way it needs to for Fishers.  If the Tigers fail to do that, the game could be a lot closer than many expect.  The Mavs have been playing hard in an emotionally charged season and the Tigers will see a different level of play than they did at Harrison last week.

The Mavs defensively have a pair of linebackers, senior Matt Muncy and junior Caleb Harper. that are high charge kind of players and Tigers will need to neutralize them and keep them off balance.  Senior strong safety Kyle Brewer is also a big 6'4", 200 lbs that likes to hit and can cover the field well.  Controlling the offensive running attack with key passes will wear down the Mavs defensively.

Despite the loss to Lafayette Jefferson, surprising in my opinion, I believe McCutcheon is the best team we will play against in Lafayette area and the Tigers will want to not give them any early confidence and come ready to play football the way they are coached to.

In common opponent games:

McCutcheon 40, Harrison 6

Noblesville 21, McCutcheon 14

For those that like to dig a little bit deeper into the opponent of the week, there is an interesting ESPN piece done earlier this year about McCutcheon QB Matt Marencik's recruiting efforts that you might find interesting.

Also, we don't want to see any of this as found on the MTCSportsNetwork YouTube site.

Enjoy the trip Tigers, play to dominate and let's see some more students car-pooling to this one!
